FreeSound Quotes

This review by the Russian River Monthly captures a lot of the essence of this band
    Russian River Monthly review

Quoting Adam Crowe of FreeSound "A previous generation believed that music could save the world. Those days are gone. No one person or thing can save the world but music can help us save ourselves from the world."

"FreeSound are heavily influenced by the Psychedelic jamming of the 1960s. They believe they're "preserving that culture, building on that energy."

"We see a lot of good energy in the world, but it's scattered, and we want to help draw it together."

"FreeSound belong to an ever-growing family of people around the world committed to giving back to the Earth by sharing love and knowledge through music, art and words."

Adam Crowe

Lead guitarist Adam Crowe fills up the music with spacious sound effects, lap slide, and masterful fingerstyle guitar dosed with phasors, echo, and improvised solos reminiscent of 60's rock icons.

Adam Crowe was born in Sydney Australia and raised in Sydney and Hawaii. Adam began playing guitar when he was 11 years old.

In 1999, his senior year, Adam wrote and recorded "Who Knows",an instrumental album with vividsoundscapes.

By 2000, Adam had become an exceptional guitarist who rolled out mind-blowing improvisations. At Musicians Institute in Hollywood CA he joined forces with vocalist/ songwriter Keith Batlin, and together they have become a high caliber songwriting force and the messages they convey throught their lyrics are important and lasting.

Adam & Keith founded the band FreeSound in 2000, and wrote and recorded the tracks on their first CD in 2001, "The Cosmic Sailors". The song lyrics on that CD show the depth of their message. They represent an ever-growing family of people who want to give back to the earth by sharing love and knowledge through music, art, and words. In 2002, FreeSound recorded their 2nd CD, "Roots Is ..." once again showing an extraordinary diversity and blend of music across genres, hence "free sound".

As the lead guitarist for FreeSound, Adam gives dynamics to the FreeSound live performances. Accomplished as a slide guitarist, and in classical styles, his mind-bending solo improvisations and his superb technical skills give FreeSound a sound that leaves audiences in awe. Many captivated fans say Adam plays as if his guitar is an extension of himself, of the music in his heart.

Keith Batlin

Keith Batlin's vocals and harmonies cover a truly amazing range of styles and complexities, easily switching textures from honey/silk to smoke.

Keith Batlin was born in Carmel CA and raised in Seaside CA and Hawaii. Keith came from a musical family, and began playing trumpet and tuba from an early age. He also played in school bands in Monterey CA and in Hawaii. He started playin guitar with a band Treazen in 1999. When that band split up, Keith joined with songwriter Adam Crowe, and together they have already produced four (4 ) albums.

Keith received a scholarship from The Monterey Bay Blues festival recognizing young blues talent, so in early 2000 he enrolled in the Musicians Institute in Hollywood CA. At the same time, he and Adam Crowe founded the band FreeSound, and wrote and recorded the tracks on their first CD in 2001, "The Cosmic Sailors".

In 2001, Keith performed at The San Jose Jazz Festival as a singer/guitarist in support of Taylor P. Collins.

As the lead vocalist for FreeSound, Keith's vocals have an incredible range of style and complexity. There is no doubt that Keith's vocals give FreeSound the edge they need to achieve unlimited potential.

Chris "Tanasa" Daniel

Ever since the womb tanasa has been kickin' beats and holding down the foundation. My first drumset came at early age of four and I have been wanting to tour ever since then. I have worked with many artists over the years including Uprite dub, 4-word, Shimshai, Marty dread, Seventh seal, Kat, Bubble, Earthforce, and Elemental foundation. My musical style is primarily based around hard reggae riddims but includes R&B, Hip-hop, blues, Jazz, Funk, and everything in between. Now added to the Freesound line-up the limits are endless. My abilities to handle long touring road conditions can't hurt either. So look out world because here comes the rooticalstyles of the hard hitting Freesound.
